Solidarity Is Our Strategy
The Huron Valley Area Labor Federation unites labor unions across Southeast Michigan to build worker power
WHO WE ARE
The Huron Valley Area Labor Federation fights for working families in Washtenaw County, Livingston County, Jackson County, and Hillsdale County by promoting economic justice in the workplace and social justice throughout our region.
OUR MISSION
To bring local union leaders and members together to build a labor movement that improves the lives of all working families. We work to fulfill our mission by supporting struggles for worker rights and living wages in the workplace, and by changing the balance of political power to achieve racial and social justice in our region.
Our Latest Action
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 2092 and HVALF organized a rally to defend the VA from Trump’s attacks on federal workers.
OUR HISTORY
Area Labor Federations are the regional level of the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), the national federation of unions that represents about 11.5 of the 14.5 million union members in the United States.
The Huron Valley Area Labor Federation, formed on April 1, 2016, incorporated the Huron Valley Central Labor Council (HVCLC) which affiliated union locals operating in Washtenaw, Livingston, Jackson, and Hillsdale Counties.
As of April, 2025, the HVALF has 35 local union affiliates. Together, our affiliates represent over 21,000 union members who live and/or work in the four counties HVALF represents.
